Vertical Flight Society

The Vertical Flight Society (VFS) is at the forefront of the eVTOL network and continues to be an invaluable resource for NexAvian. Their community of professional and experienced members expands internationally with several industry leaders working to advance the next evolution of vertical flight.

Founded in 1943 as the American Helicopter Society (AHS), they’ve recently changed their name to Vertical Flight Society (VFS) and remain focused on the changing future of transportation including the urban air mobility industry. Everything from VTOL MAVs/UAS to helicopters and eVTOL to STOVL (everything vertical except rockets).

In a recent presentation at the Future of Transportation World Conference, Mike Hirschberg their Executive Director, highlighted some of the current contributions of VFS in the industry. This includes everything from technical guidance and journal publications, to conferences, events, and symposiums.  Their focus aims on the following key principles of the industry:

  • Expand knowledge about vertical flight technology
  • Promote VTOL flight applications around the world
  • Advance safety and acceptability
  • Advocate vertical flight R&D funding
  • Help educate and support today’s and tomorrow’s vertical flight engineers and leaders

The Electric VTOL News is a great online resource that focuses on the latest top stories of eVTOL around the globe. This site has an amazing and growing list of companies that are developing new types of electric aircraft for all sorts of applications, including urban air mobility and recreation.
